“For Digital Prishtina” kicks off
So we begin.
Today, on June 13 at 1800 hours, under bright lights and in a room full of enthusiasm, the hackathon “For Digital Prishtina” kicked off today. Young people from around Kosovo started their 48 hours of developing, during which they will receive intense mentorship and have a chance to contribute to making the administration of the capital more open and transparent.
The ground floor of ICK was buzzing with guests and applicants of the challenge, before Uranik Begu, ICK executive director, took the floor, warmly welcomed everyone and invited the keynote speaker, Mayor of Prishtina, Shpend Ahmeti. He emphasized that the city was open and looking forward to using the creativity of young people to shape up the capital. Steliana Nedera, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative, followed with words of praise and encouragement for youth engagement.
Shortly after, fifteen teams presented their ideas in less than one minute. Excited, yet confident, they shared their visions for the city. Within the two challenges that the municipality identified, which are spending and employment, they had come up with ways to include games and polling.
Then some pizza, initial work and now we are watching the World Cup.
It is both work and play here, so we’ll keep you posted.
